GUESS WHAT TIME IT IS????
IT'S TIME TO LOVE YO SELF!
I wanted to create a "Love Yourself" post, because it is crucial to your well-being.
Loving yourself is a lot of hard work and practice, believe it or not.
I personally struggled with loving myself for the past few years. Some of you reading this, know me pretty well, and think "WHAT? Sarah? Having a hard time loving herself? Nahhhh... She's so happy and outgoing!" etc. But that's only what I have shown on the surface.
I think that everyone, all ages, ethnicities, religions, and regions struggle with loving themselves! It's easy to get distracted by temporary happiness through alcohol or drugs or shopping addictions, or binge eating or our overstimulated media.
Sometimes our depression, self-esteem, and/or anxiety get in the way of our happiness. Or maybe we feel like our lives are being lived unfulfilled.
I'm here to explain how EASY it is to begin loving yourself, STARTING TODAY.
There's 3 things that must be taken care of to begin your journey to self-love:
I know I probably sound like a hippie yoga instructor (which is cool, because I have mad respect for those people), or that I sound like a fortune cookie... But hear me out. It's actually pretty simple. The hardest part about loving yourself isn't learning how to, but taking action.
Let's break it down:
Your body is a temple! START TREATING IT LIKE ONE! Binge eating, smoking, alcohol, fad diets, eating junk food, not sleeping enough, etc. are all NO NO'S! (If I sound like your mother, GOOD. It's because I care...)
The health of your body is crucial! It's time to start incorporating fruits and vegetables in your diet, and weaning yourself off of junk food and candy. One thing I can say is I still have a beer or pizza or burgers every once in a while. It's not an every day thing. AND there's times where I eat a burger, but instead of having it on a bun, I use two pieces of lettuce as the bun, and then douse it in Sriracha and mustard, with onions and cheese.
I'm not saying you need to give up all your favorite foods or start eating like a rabbit, BUT there is healthier alternatives to EVERYYYYTTTHIIIING. It's the 21st century people... I have found countless blogs and recipes showing how to make a HEALTH-ier version of boneless buffalo chicken. Or nachos. Or pizza.
Also smoothies are great, which you can easily pack both fruits, veggies, and protein (and they always taste delicious).
Try to eat as many raw veggies as you can, which is pretty easy to do if you pair it with hummus or your favorite dip instead of chips (as I'm typing, I'm eating raw broccoli with carrot Sriracha hummus. yum!)
Besides eating right, you need to make sure you get tons of beauty rest! 6-9 hours of sleep is key!
Also, vitamins like Probiotics, Vitamin C, Biotin, etc. will help your immune system stay sharp, as well as assist your organ function. Biotin will help your nails grow strong and make that hair of yours look straight out of a Pantene Pro-V commercial (it helps defeat those pain in the ass split ends too).
Things like reading books, doing research, educating yourself, listening to your favorite music, traveling, experiencing new cultures, trying new foods, expressing yourself through painting or photography are things that stimulate your mind.
Browsing through your phone constantly or staying inside all day will not help your mind!
This is the time to explore a near by city, or try out that new restaurant that opened. Go thrifting at Goodwill and find a new book less than $2 and read it. Have friends over and socialize without phones. Draw or write whatever is on your mind, or what you dreamed about. Go walk your dogs. Try out a new cooking recipe. Play chess or a board game.
Do anything that will let your imagination loose!
YOUR SELF-LOVE DEPENDS ON THE HEALTH OF YOUR MIND.
Do you believe in a higher existence? A higher presence? It doesn't necessarily have to be religious or labeled "God", but believing in a higher spiritual presence is key to loving yourself, as well as assisting your successes.
It's time to start meditating and/or praying. This releases a little thing called faith. Faith is by definition: complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
This confidence will assist you in taking care of your body and mind. Your spirituality is key to your happiness. Your happiness is key for self-love.
You can read the bible, study other religions, learn how to meditate, or learn many other techniques to receive peace and help from that higher, spiritual entity. My happiness and self-love would not be the same without it.
Now go out there and start doing things that make your soul light on fire!
Peace and love,
